Who We Are
Alzheimer’s Association of Kenya was started in 2007 by caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease with the aim of starting a support group to help each other as caregivers in dealing with the disease. With time however, the needs of the caregivers evolved and more people reached out to the organization seeking assistance. Hence,there was need for the association to re-strategies to have more impact country wide
That said, the association changed into a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) to be able to raise funds in order to reach out to communities outside Nairobi, create and facilitate training programs for care givers and help meet financial needs of some families affected by these condition. In January 2016, Alzheimer’ and Dementia Organization Kenya was created.
To create Dementia friendly communities all over Kenya.
To fight the stigma associated with Alzheimer’s & Dementia disease by spreading awareness of Alzheimer’s at a national, community and individual level while empowering those affected by Alzheimer’s with adequate information in order for them to lead quality life’s
Creating awareness of Alzheimer’s & Dementia disease
Fighting the stigma associated with Dementia to enable proper care
Educating people on the importance of a proper diagnosis
Ensuring care givers get proper and adequate training on post diagnosis care
Establishing’s Support groups for care givers all over Kenya
Ensuring that people with Dementia are recognized by the government and provision for their care is included in key government policies/strategies
